Concept
In this reimagined realm, dreams are a manufactured service: laborers construct custom dreams from human memories under founding co-CEOs Oberon and Titania. When real-world youths enter the fabricated forest during sleep, their complicated romantic entanglements collide with corporate power struggles and the magical chaos orchestrated by Oberon's servant, Puck.
Experience Design
Audience flow, sightlines, and musical transitions were composed as carefully as the mise-en-scène — the theatre itself became the factory floor of the Dream Corporation, with spectators as visitors inside the dream-manufacturing world.
Technology / Medium
Traditional stage magic was replaced with 'system glitches' and AI-generated imagery: the fairies' interventions visualized as algorithmic manipulation. Original music composition and direction throughout.
Process
Textual adaptation and dramaturgical restructuring, original composition, AI visual development, spatial staging, and leadership of a 50+ person production.
Outcome
Best Directing Award (Chung-Ang University Performing Arts Festival, 2024). A fully sold-out run with an audience of over 1,000.
Reflection
Everything I build now descends from this rehearsal room. Replacing magic with system logic was the hinge of my practice: from stage to system, the director becomes an architect of worlds.
Credits
Directed and composed by Hayeon Shim. Space 1959, 2024. Full cast and creative team credits available on request.
