Shim Hayeon is a World-Builder, whose practice transitions from the physical stage to media art systems. Holding a BA in Theatre from Chung-Ang University, she views immersive storytelling not merely as a linear narrative but as a meticulously constructed environment where the audience possesses genuine agency.
Her pivotal work, A Midsummer Night’s Dream (2024), reimagined classic theatre as a 'Dream Corporation,' establishing a foundation for her exploration into systemic narratives. This inquiry naturally expanded into the realms of Metaverse, XR, and AI, leading to the founding of the interdisciplinary research group 'Ready To Play.' In works like the AI sound installation RESONANCE BEYOND (2024), Shim investigates the 'inner voices' of non-human entities, utilizing AI agents to foster empathy toward otherness.
Currently, Shim combines artistic inquiry with professional expertise as a Project Manager at Dotmill, overseeing large-scale media art productions. She is also an active member of the Korea Artificial Intelligence Design Association (KADA) and a selected artist for APE CAMP, continuously expanding her network among leading experts. Shim’s ongoing vision is to construct speculative frameworks where human and AI agents co-create, pushing the boundaries of Human-Computer Interaction beyond spectacle toward ontological inquiry.
