Director's Note
The multidisciplinary art exhibition “If You Listen: Resonance Beyond the Boundary” explores a journey beyond anthropocentric perspectives, delving into the possibility of resonance with non-human beings. Integrating artificial intelligence (AI) technologies with media art, the work invites audiences to experience the world from the viewpoint of non-human entities, offering a new form of empathy through the auditory manifestation of their voices.
Centered around the theme of harmony, the exhibition offers a transcendent experience—beyond the boundaries of human and non-human, self and other, us and them. Visitors are immersed in the vivid monologues of objects such as stones, grass, trees, ants, and roads, leading to a reimagined awareness of the coexistence between the natural and the artificial. The spatial composition is designed such that from the central area, a massive harmony can be heard, but when the viewer approaches specific zones, the individual melodic voices of each entity—like personal soliloquies—become more pronounced.
Throughout the creation process, AI tools were used to endow non-human objects with identity, language, and melody. Key technologies included ChatGPT for monologue generation, Supertone Shift for voice synthesis, and Midjourney and RunwayML for visual concept development.
Visually, the artwork aims to depict an interconnected network—a constellation of entities—where each point and perspective converges in lines of connection, reflecting a nonlinear and non-hierarchical world.
Sonically, a contrapuntal structure was composed in which the diverse entities perform a collective monologue, weaving together an expansive world through polyphonic textures.
This exhibition is designed to allow viewers to move freely and engage with the work from multiple perspectives. This spatial openness reflects the philosophical intent to move away from human-centered thinking and toward exploring possibilities for coexistence with non-human life. By collaborating with AI in its current strength—generating infinite personas—the project expands the scale of worlds that can be envisioned by a single artist.
“If You Listen: Resonance Beyond the Boundary” is not simply about hearing non-human voices; it proposes singing with them, and imagining a shared future. We hope this work offers audiences both a novel sensory encounter and a moment of philosophical reflection.
